چکیده مقاله:

The ceramic production of the Oxus Civilization (ca. 2300-1500 BCE) is mainly known through typo-chronology, built from the comparative analysis of shapes of entire vessels from grave contexts, but the characterization of the production at settlements has been poorly investigated. Recent archaeological work at the major Bronze Age site of Togolok Depe(joint Turkmen-Italian-American Mission) in Turkmenistan provide new first hand-data for the analysis of the pottery production in Margiana. The study contributes to a better definition and characterization of the ceramic traditions, as well as to the understanding of regional and extra-regional variations. The ceramic data also exposes various elementsof continuity and discontinuity in transition from the previous and to the following periods which demonstrate a substantial change in the regional evolution of the pottery traditions.
