Study of the Progressive Collapse and how it affected Tehran Plasco building

Progressive Collapse as the spread of an initial local failure from a structural element that would eventually result in the collapse of an entire structure or a large part of it is a very vast and sensitive area of study. Blast, impact, or deformation-related loads can be the classifications of abnormal loading hazards that could bring about the Progressive Collapse. In this paper the description ,typology, and some methods regarding sudden loss of a member and their side effects in Progressive Collapse are gathered and summarized and then are used to refer to a recent example of this phenomenon which is Plasco tower a high-rise 17-story landmark building in Tehran, the capital city of Iran. In the 1960s at the time of its construction it was the tallest building in Iran and was considered an iconic part of the Tehran skyline. During a high-rise fire the building collapsed on 19 January 2017 and an account of the events occurring in the building that eventually led to its collapse is being given.
