Delay is one of the most important events in countries projects. For this reason, most developed and developing countries, in order to make more use of resources and make more profit, are looking for the root causes of delays in past projects to reduce the amount of delays in future projects by providing solutions or to identify the culprits of project delays, to take action to receive compensation. delays as an obstacle can be divided according to criteria such as: the origin of the event, event time, and their compensability. The present study identified the factors and reasons for the delay of construction projects in Iran using library and field studies and surveys of experts and was categorized based on the most events and the impact. In the first stage, these factors were identified through library studies of the research of other researchers, and in the second stage, by completing the researcher-made questionnaire by scientific-industrial experts and statistical analyzes, the most effective factors were identified among the selected primary factors. Then, it adjusted through a questionnaire with the five-point Likert scale (from 1 to 5), the opinions of experts in the projects were received and by using AHP and DEMATEL methods, the importance of the ten most effective areas of PMBOK standard project management was calculated based on the delay factors and the knowledge areas of project management with higher rank and priority (greater weakness in creating delays) were determined
