چکیده مقاله:

The aim of this research is to develop a dressing with desired antibacterial activity, water maintaining ability and structural properties for wound healing and skin regeneration. In the present study, a porous dressing was prepared from chitosan and aloe vera by freeze- drying. Vancomycin was added to the scaffolds to introduce antibacterial activity. SEM images revealed that mean pore diameter of pure chitosan scaffold was 114±25 μm. Mean pore diameter was increased when aloe vera was added and reached to 174±32 μm. Histogram of chitosan porous scaffolds showed wide distribution of pores, however, histogram of C70A30 scaffold showed narrow distribution of pores. Water uptakeability of the samples was higher for chitosan/aloe vera (C/A). This data indicated the potential of the porous structures to be used as highly absorbing wound dressing material. Antibacterial activity of the chitosan/aloe vera samples was proved against Staphylococcus aureus according to the antibacterial test. The results showed that vancomycin loaded chitosan/aloe vera porous scaffolds have potential use in wound dressing
