This paper discusses and compares the analytical free vibration analysis on the finite element models of the real detailed metal and composite aerobatic wing box. The effect of fibre angle, bending-twist material coupling of the simplified composite wing box is also carried out after the validation of the real wing models. The detailed finite element wing models were constructed and analyzed using the commercial finite element program, MSC/PATRAN and MSC/NASTRAN respectively. The dynamic characteristics of the wing structure are in the form of natural frequencies and mode shapes. The paper also discusses the finite element models generated, by using MSC/PATRAN and analyzed by using the standard FE- MSC/NASTRAN software. Some simplifications in the laminates were placed in studying the effects of bend-twist material coupling (in a practical way) and fibre angle of the upper and lower skin of the wing box on the natural frequencies and mode shapes. This has been done by using two different finite element models; CAS and CUS configurations. The wing box was modeled to simulate a clamped-free boundary condition. It discusses also some initial aeroelastic investigation which may contribute to the flutter speed and divergence speed based on the frequency ratio’s.
