چکیده مقاله:

Damage initiation and propagation in composite materials are of great importance in material science. One of the critical damages in composite materials is delamination. Delamination of two adjacent plies of a laminate is a commonly observed failure mode and the susceptibility to delamination is a major weakness of laminated composite structures. In this article a procedure is presented for damage detection, localization and establishing damage severity by using acoustic emission (AE) technique. The technique is based on the stress waves release from damage source. Signals are detected by sensors and analyzed by a signal processing method. Test set-up involved end notch flexure test (ENF) to detect mode II of delamination. The signals are obtained from ENF test specimens and time-frequency is used for processing. Differences between delamination propagation in loading stages are observed to be considerable by this technique. Results show that AE is an effective tool for structural health monitoring of composite materials that allow timely intervention to avoid component failure
