Composite coatings containing solid-lubricant particles in a metallic matrix are extensively used to decrease the friction coefficient of tribo-surfaces. Bronze can give various properties such as wear resistance, corrosion and oxidation protection. Regarding the environmental limitations of cyanide solutions, the present work develops a non-cyanide bronze electroplating bath for the electroplating production of Cu-Sn composite coatings. The effect of some pertinent operating parameters, namely as SiC concentration and current density, have been evaluated on the codeposition process of SiC and bronze. The corrosion properties of the obtained composite coating have been characterized and found that the corrosion rate of the composite coating consisted of 3.7 Vol.% SiC is four times less than that of bronze coating in acidic media. Based on the obtained results, it has been found that, increasing the Vol.% of SiC particles in deposit leads to a promising improve of both wearing resistance and hardness of bronze coating.
