Technical and economic study of the use of ACSR and highcapacity conductors and comparison of their losses in the transmission network

Increasing electricity consumption in cities and the impossibility ofdeveloping high-pressure lines in urban areas and important andexpensive places have encouraged engineers to use high-capacityconductors. This article first introduces the history and reasons forusing high-capacity conductors. The difference between ACSRconductors and high-capacity conductors is expressed in terms ofbehavioral characteristics. Then, the technical comparison of highcapacityconductors with ACSR conductors has been done. Then, theeconomic study of the use of high-capacity conductors to increasepower transmission is stated. Despite the lower price of ACSRcompared to high-capacity conductors, the study shows the advantageof using high-capacity conductors to increase the capacity of existinglines. In the next section, losses in high-capacity conductors aredescribed, and in order to investigate and compare losses with thereplacement of high-capacity conductors, we use a practical example.At the end, conclusions and suggestions are given.
