Generation of waste is increasing and landfilling continues to be the prevailing methodology for disposing municipal solid waste. Owing to lean separation of redeemable materials, MSW landfills still receive important quantities of reclaimable materials, particularly ferric metals, aluminum, plastic and glass. The value of extracted materials is significant, fostering extended interest in recovering the buried materials through mining. Landfill mining (LFM) is an environmentally-friendly technology that mixes the ideas of material recycling and sustainable waste management, and it s received a good deal of world attention owing to its important environmental and economic potential in material recycling, energy recovery, and land reclamation and pollution inhibition. Generally, a mining project involves a big monetary investment and isn t freed from isks. Factors affecting the economic possibility of reclamation vary for every site and every reclamation goal. It is generally believed that the recyclable materials which are recovered provide economic earnings which are a fact depending on several sights, such as the quality of the separated fractions, residential condition and the market value. In particular circumstances, recovery also focused on fine organic and inorganic material can have economic significance if they display significant enough mass for recovery. The expenses are often offset by the sale or use of recovered materials, such as recyclables, soil, and waste, which can be burned as fuel. Other serious benefits may involve avoided liability through site remediation and reclamation of land for other uses. It is well known that landfill mining decrease or eliminate closure values and in most cases decrease the long term environmental difficulties. The goals of this article are to present landfill mining process, feasibility, benefits and limitations in brie.
