چکیده مقاله:

Background: Color vision is known as the major trait of the visual system. Color vision impairment in many jobs, lead to increased reaction time and workers confronting with of hazardous situations. The study aims to examine and evaluate the impact of five Occupational factors, i.e., demographic& medical factors, risk management indicator, exposure status, and environmental conditions in predicting acquired color vision impairment in gasoline station workers In Iran.Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional study is conducted in the 39 gasoline stations of Tehran city. A questionnaire was designed, and data were collected on a random sampling basis. Eight hundred and twenty-four samples were collected in two groups (high exposure and low exposure), A survey was designed to gather individual, occupational and environmental data among gasoline station workers. The visual acuity with the SnellenChart, inherent color vision impairment with Ishihara plates and Acquired color vision impairment with LANTHONY D-15 were determined. The determination of the concentrations of BTEX compounds was carried out according to the standard NIOSH 1501.All data were analyzed using Smart PLS -Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique. Results: in this research, the associations were displayed among demographic and medical factors, risk management indicator, exposure status, and environmental conditions and Acquired color vision impairment. The findings indicate that in high exposure group demographic & exposure factor, medical status, risk management factors and environmental condition play a pivotal role in predisposing the gas station workers to Acquired Color Vision Impairment in which a unit increase led to 0.763, 0.695, 0.0.578, 0.364, 0.213 increases in acquired color vision impairment respectively. But about low exposure group analysis showed that demographic and medical factors had the highest impact on acquired color vision impairment in which a unit increase led to 0.499, 0.310 increase in acquired color vision impairment respectively and a unit increase in exposure factor leads to a little (0.159) increase in acquired color vision impairment. Conclusion: Only a very few have examined the impact of Occupational Health and Safety factors on the workers’ Acquired Color Vision Impairment risk, and usage of Smart PLS is a novel idea, and it is a first-hand study of its kind. The study will help to improve the Health and Safety practices in the construction industry and expected to bring in more awareness among workers, which will inevitably bring in a culture of safe behavior.
