چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim : Amniotic membrane (AM) can promote proper epithelialization with suppression of excessive fibrosis by creating a supportive milieu for regeneration of chronic burn wound. The goal of this study is to assess the effect of human amniotic membrane in treatment of burn wounds. Methods : literature search was undertaken and the databases searched included Med line, Pub Med, Scholar, Science Direct Results : Annually many individuals in low and middle income countries suffer from burn injuries.11 In the classic manner, the treatment of burn is via daily washing of the wound, removal of the dead tissue and antibiotic dressing till the formation of granulation tissue and later grafting. Different methods have been used for improvement of epithelialization and reduction of complications of burn wounds that one of them is using Amniotic membrane. HAM derived from human tissue is relatively free of any significant side effects. HAM has low immunogenicity, anti-inflammatory properties and their cells can be isolated without the sacrifice of human embryos. Amniotic membrane has biological properties which are important for the experimental and clinical applications in managing patients of various medical specialties. It has various clinical applications in the field of dermatology, chronic burn wounds, Epidermolysis bullosa, ophthalmology, ENT surgery, orthopedics and dental surgery. Mohammadi et al , Eskandarlou et al, Branskind et al , showed the positive effects of amnion membrane in burn wound. Conclusion : The studies indicate that the treatment of chronic burn wounds with amniotic membrane improves healing rates in these ulcers. So it is recommended to use amniotic membrane in the site of skin graft in order to be harvested in burn patients specially with high percentage of burn lesions for pain reduction and improvement of patient mobility and also acceleration of recovery .
