The Effect of Photorefractive Keratectomy Cognitive Therapy in Myopiaand Astigmatism by Using Nidek EC-5000 Excimer Laser System in Patients Referred to Zahedan Ophthalmology Hospital

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of photorefractive keratectomy in myopia, hyperopia, and stigmatism using the Nidek EC-5000 Excimer laser system in eligible patients of Zahedan Ophthalmology Hospital in 2014 and 2015. Methods: In this retrospective study, 209 PRK records including 418 myopic eyes were studied. In 102 patients eligible whose referred to the hospital for measuring Refractive Error (RE) and Visual Acuity (VA) at different times The age and sex factors and RE and VA were examined before and 6 months after surgery. Data were analyzed by using SPSS ver. 17 software. Results: The rate of myopia after PRK decreased, and the mean of myopic discrepancy before and after operation was -3.17 diopters. The level of astigmatism after PRK was decreased, and the mean rate of astigmatism before and after surgery was -0.32 diopters, and there was correlative of myopia before and after operation, as well as astigmatism before and after surgery. Conclusion: After studying the results, we found that out of 204 myopic eyes after surgery, 128 eyes (62.74%) were hyperopia, 56 eyes (27.45%) were converted to plano, and 20 eyes (9.80%) were left myopic. The rate of the hyperopia was +0.25 to +2.50 after the operation.
