چکیده

Background and Aim: Multiple myeloma (MM) is a malignant disorder affecting plasma cells and is characterized by bone marrow lesions, renal failure, anemia, and Hypercalcemia. The common treatment for MM is chemotherapy which is associated with several complications such as neurological problems, venous and arterial thrombosis, toxicity to organs, and in most cases recurrence of disease. Maslinic acid (MA) is a natural compound which is found in many plants. It is abundantly found in the cuticular lipid layer of the oliveMethods: L363 cells were cultured in RPMI 1640 containing 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) at 37 °C in a humidified atmosphere with 5% CO2. Then, they were treated with various doses of MA (10, 20, 40, 80 and 160 μg/ml) when the viability of the cells was more than 90%. Cell viability and metabolic activity were evaluated using trypan blue exclusion test and MTT assay respectivelyResults: results showed that MA was cytotoxic to L363cells. IC50 of MA was found to be 80 g/ml. The viability and metabolic activity of the cell were significantly decreased in a dose dependent mannerConclusion: Throughout the study, it was found that maslinic acid was cytotoxic to L363 MM cell line with the IC50 of 80 μg/ml. Further investigations is needed to evaluate the effects of maslinic acid on L363 MM cell line
