چکیده :
This article examines the architecture of caravanserais in Iran, which are recognized as one of
the most prominent examples of Iranian architecture throughout history. Caravanserais are
structures primarily designed for the rest of travelers and merchants on intercity routes.
These buildings not only met the needs of rest and security for travelers but also played an
important role in cultural, economic, and social exchanges. The history of caravanserais dates
back to the Achaemenid period and became more prominent during the Sassanid and Islamic
eras, especially during the Seljuk and Safavid periods. The architecture of these structures
was diverse, typically featuring square, hexagonal, or circular plans. The interior design of
caravanserais was arranged to include spaces such as resting rooms, stables, warehouses,
and public kitchens. One of the notable features of these buildings is the influence of climate
on their design. In hot and dry areas, central courtyards and domed ceilings were designed to
regulate temperature, while in cold regions, covered halls were used to retain heat. These
buildings were not only places for rest but also served as social and cultural centers
