چکیده

Earth-sheltered structures have existed for thousands of years in different parts of the world, and today, they are developed for various functions. In recent years, earth-sheltered houses as a type of construction technique have attracted numerous audiences around the world, in which the building is partially or entirely buried in the ground, with valuable advantages such as energy saving, resistance to harsh weather conditions, and integration with nature. The upcoming research seeks an answer to the question of how the construction of earth-sheltered housing can play an influential role in the realization of green buildings and ultimately sustainable development, and the purpose of doing it is to examine how sustainable development criteria are adapted to earth-sheltered housing. The research is of a qualitative type and has been done with a comparative analysis. Relevant information has been collected by referring to library sources, including books and publications related to the subject, and reviewing authentic articles on scientific sites. The results of this research indicate that earth-sheltered residential buildings, relying on their valuable environmental, social and economic capabilities, fully comply with the criteria of sustainable development, and this type of green building can be a suitable replacement for the majority of conventional houses located on the surface of the earth.
