چکیده

One of the major problems in oil production is the formation of asphaltene ending to pores blockage inthe oil reservoirs. One of the new methods which is beneficial to deter asphaltene sediment is usingnanoparticles. The high surface activity of nanoparticles prevents asphaltene deposition or delays itsformation. One of the major advantages of nanoparticles is their very high available surface and very lowvolume, which absorbs asphaltene and facilitates their movement in the porous medium. Nanoparticles areresist in high temperature and pressure conditions. Besides, nanoparticles have many applications in oilextraction, one of which is to change the wettability of reservoir rocks. In this study, nanotechnology wasintroduced and then the properties of nanoparticles and the importance of coating and protecting them werediscussed. Next, magnetic nanoparticles and the role of silica and chitosan as coating were investigated.Finally, the application of nanoparticles in oil industries especially in tackling with asphaltene problems wasinvestigated.
