چکیده مقاله:
In this study, we aim to provide a preliminary estimation of landslide tsunami hazard assessment in the western part of Makran subduction zone (WMSZ). First, we search for locations prone to landslide by providing a slope gradient map for this zone. Critical locations with steeper slope are defined and a worst-case scenario is employed for modeling landslide. We simulate the Papua New Guinea 1998 catastrophe which was one of the deadliest tsunamis generated by a landslide. A leapfrog finite-difference model, COMCOT (Cornell multigrid coupled tsunami model), is used to simulate the propagation of the debris-flow-generated tsunami and its associated impact on coastal cities in WMSZ. The results indicate that coastal cities along Iran and Oman are more vulnerable to landslide tsunami hazard. Also, far-field effects are not so serious in which wave heights in Gwadar, a city at Pakistan will reach 55 cm at maximum. Besides, Qeshm island will experience wave heights up to 17 cm at the entrance of Persian Gulf, evidence that Persian Gulf seems to be safe against any threats caused by landslide tsunamis
