Effect of Hydroxyapatite Sub-micron Particles on Microhardness and Corrosion Behavior of Mg-3Zn Magnesium Alloy

چکیده

Magnesium and its alloys have recently received much attention due to their unique mechanical and biomedical properties. In this paper, Mg-3Zn magnesium alloy has been reinforced by 2.5 wt.% of hydroxyapatite (HA) sub-micron particles using mechanical-electromagnetic stir casting followed by hot extrusion process. Afterward, the microhardness and corrosion behavior of the composite are investigated. The results exhibit that the presence of the hydroxyapatite particles increases the microhardness of the composite compared to that of the monolithic alloy. Furthermore, the particles decrease the grain size of the matrix, which consequently affects the corrosion behavior of the samples in the simulation body fluid (SBF)
