Purpose Interhemispheric transmission of signal is done by corpus callosum (CC) as the largest fiber tract in brain. The CC is organized five segments; rostrum, genu, body, isthmus and splenium. Contradictory studies have been published about sexual dimorphism of CC and there is no consensus result. We have design this study to assess probable sexual differences of CC and to reveal which part of CC is effected in male and female. Methods We analyzed magnetic resonance (MR) images of 68 females and 60 males in midsagittal view by PmsDViewer software. Data were analyzed by Student’s t-test statistically. These cases have no any neurologic and pathologic disease. Results MRI anthropometric analysis indicates that all segments of CC in a sex-related manner are larger in male rather than female brain. Moreover, our results revealed that although area of all segments of CC were more in men rather than women, this increase was more pronounced in the anterior segments of CC.Conclusion These findings indicated there are gender-related differences between CC segments of male and female by elimination of brain size as interferer variable.
