Presence of toxA gene and antibiotic resistance among Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates in Bandar Abbas

چکیده
Introduction and Objectives:Pseudomonas aeruginosais an important nosocomial pathogen. Most isolates of this organism are resistant to a wide range of antibiotics. Exotoxin A is one of the major virulence factors of this bacterium. The aim of the present study was to determine the antibiotic resistance pattern and the presence of the toxAgene among clinical isolates of P.aeruginosa.Material and methods:During the study period from April 2017 to July 2017, a total of71 isolates of P. aeruginosa were collected from different clinical specimens in two teaching hospital in Bandar Abbas. The presence of toxAgene was determined by PCR.Antimicrobial susceptibility profiles of the isolates weredetermined by disk diffusion method.Results:According to the results, the highest rate of resistance were seen against tetracycline(32.40%) and the most effective antibiotic was colistin (98.60%). However, 58.6% of isolated were sensitive to all antibiotic agents. In total, 24.3% of the isolates were characterized as Multidrug-resistant.The prevalence of the toxAgene was95.70% among the isolates. The statistical analysis showed that there is no significantly difference between the presence of toxA gene and the MDR phenotype (P > 0.05).Conclusions:Based on the result of disk diffusion, colistin is active against most isolates. This drugcan be used in treatment of p.aeruginosa infections in the studied hospitals. Since, we found a colistin resistant isolates; in order to control and prevention of resistance, such bacteria should be monitored carefully. It seems that toxA gene is not related with Multidrug-resistant in P.aeruginosa in our hospitals.کلیدواژه ها
