چکیده

Introduction: Pseudo-membranous inflammatory process is reported in colon. It is an inflammatory process characterized by formation of membrane like exudate overcolonic mucosa and is mainly caused by Clostridium difficile toxin. This type of inflammation is not reported in duodenum as yet. Hereby we wanted to report a case of pseudo-membranous duodenitis in a seven year old boy for the first time. Report of Case: A seven year old boy referred with complaint of severe abdominal pain (aboveumbilicus) to pediatric gastro- enterologist, started a day before which lasted for half an hour. Before onset of pain he declared passage of loose stool for one time. Upper endoscopy was performed and patchy ulceration and white membrane was seen in duodenum. Biopsy was taken with impression of fungal infection and was sent to ourlab. Histologic study revealed crater like ulceration with upward exudation of mucus consistent with pseudomembranous inflammatory process. Discussion:Duodenitis – proximal jejunitis is reported in horses and Clostridium difficile toxin has been potentially suggested as the cause of this condition in few reports however pseudomembranous duodenitis is not yet reported in humans.
