Synchronous presentation of squamous cell carcinoma and marginal zone lymphoma in the neck: A case report and literature review

چکیده
A rare case of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma with concurrent diagnosis of marginal zone lymphoma presenting with a cervical mass is being reviewed in this article.Case presentation: A 70-year-old heavy smoker man with the history of alcohol consumption was referred for direct laryngoscopy due to hoarseness and coughing from 4 months ago. He also complained of a nontender firm mass measuring about 5 cm on the left side of his neck. Laryngoscopy revealed an epiglottic mass and pathologic examination of the mass biopsy showed invasive squamous cell carcinoma. Total laryngectomy and thyroidectomy was done for the patient and neck lymph node dissection was also performed. After histologic examination, squamous cell carcinoma of the glottis with extension to bilateral false vocal cords and thyroid cartilage as well as extrinsic laryngeal muscles was diagnosed. Examination of the above mentioned cervical mass revealed an enlarged and architecturally effaced lymph node. With suspicion to lymphoma immunohistochemistry (IHC) study was requested for definite diagnosis and histologic sub-typing. Finally, the diagnosis of marginal zone lymphoma was made for the affected lymph node based on IHC results.کلیدواژه ها
