Protein misfolding and aggregation are associated with several human diseases such as Alzheimer’s,Parkinson’s and etc. Alzheimer’s disease affects about 5% of people over 65 years old. The effectivenessof flower scents has been mentioned in Islamic Medicine for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.Wereferred to the study of Rosa damascene as a common flower with a desirable aroma in the forms of Roseoil, Rose water and Phenyl ethyl alcohol (as a major constituent making up 70% of rose water). In thisstudy, anti-aggregation activity of Rosa damasceneand its effect on the kinetics of amyloid formation onhen egg white lysozyme used as a model protein was investigated using Thioflavin T fluorescence assay,Congo red assay, dynamic light scattering and circular dichroism. Our preliminary results show phenylethyl alcohol to have an anti-aggregation property. Full details of our research results will be presentedand discussed further in the form of a poster.
