Simulation and comparison of solvents performance for post-combustion CO2 capture

چکیده

In response to increase of environmental concerns resulting from energy demand in the world, development and improvement of CO2 capture and storage technologies are known for reduction of greenhouse gases emission such as CO2 from fossil fuels combustion. Most researches in this regard havebeen conducted on CO2 capture with amine solvents such as MEA. There are some problems such as corrosion of equipment, production of unwanted products from destruction of solvent, high energy requirement for these solvents regeneration and waste of solvent. In this research, CO2 capture withSulfinol-D+AMP solvent (30%wt Sulfolane+18%wt DIPA+34%wt H2O+18%wt AMP) which is combination of physical–chemical solvent was studied with Aspen Plus software to reduce some problems resulting from CO2 capture with amines. Results of simulation with Aspen Plus show that more than 96% of CO2 along withfuel gas is absorbed and isolated with Sulfinol-D+AMP solvent with lower flow rate of solvent with 40-50%lower energy requirement for the solvent regeneration and low waste of solvent than amine solvents (MEA+MDEA,DGA ,MEA). Many of the process parameters are controlled more easily than amine solvents with characteristic of composition of Sulfinol-D+AMP compound and there will be energy and economic saving in different sections of CO2 capture.
