Synthetic Forward Modeling of Carbonate Hydrocarbon Reservoirs Using Water Saturation Values – Case Study: One of the Iranian Carbonate Reservoirs

چکیده

One of the most important tasks in reservoir engineering is characterizing different parameters of the reservoir. Water saturation is a parameter whichhelps evaluating the volume of hydrocarbon in reservoirs. In this study, synthetic seismic data were produced in order to investigate the effect ofwater saturation changes on different seismic attributes using velocity form of Gassmann rock physics theory (introduced by Murphy et al, ١٩٩١) andthe Seismic Unix forward modeling software. To do this, one of the Iranian carbonate hydrocarbon reservoirs was selected and the Murphy equationwas utilized to convert the values of water saturation from ١٠ to ٩٠ percents to P-wave velocity values as ٩ different models. Writing the proper codes inSeismic Unix, these P-wave velocity values were applied to produce the geological models and the proper seismic surveying pattern was performedto gather the seismic data. Finally the stacked models were extracted. Each model explains the specific situation of water saturation which can be used to find the best correlated seismic attributes with water saturation values in the future studies.
