چکیده

ABSTRACT An efficient and simple protocol for regioselective ring opening of epoxides with thiols, aceticanhydride, and alcohols using 16 wt % MoO 3 supported on alumina as a recyclable catalyst is described.Epoxides are highly versatile synthetic intermediates in organic synthesis as they undergo ring-openingreactions with various nucleophiles to afford 1,2-difunctionalized compounds. -Hydroxysulphides, 1,2-diacetates, and -alkoxyalcohols are valuable synthones and being extensively used as key inter-mediates inthe synthesis of various biologically active natural and synthetic products [1]. Among the reactionsmentioned above, direct transformation of epoxides into 1,2-diacetates is a very important, but scarcelystudied, reaction [2].ZnSO4.7H2O is inexpensive, efficient, readily available, and mild catalyst, which has surface properties, andsuggests very rich organic chemistry. Zinc sulfate is the inorganic_compound with the formula ZnSO4 aswell as any of three hydrates . It was historically known as white vitriol . It is a colorless solid that is acommon source of soluble zinc ions [3].Here, a simple and efficient method for the conversion of epoxide to1,2 - diacetate with acetic anhydride solvent under reflux conditions returned by a rapid catalyst areintroduced. The capability of this synthetic protocol was investigated by the reaction of activated,deactivated, and cyclic epoxides with anhydride acetic/ ZnSO4.7H2O system under the optimized conditions.The epoxides were converted to the corresponding 1,2-Diacetates in exellent yields within short times(Scheme 1).
