چکیده

Advanced ceramics are widely used as a substitution for metals in industry. Silicon carbide (SiC) ceramic has special features such as low density, high thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion and very high thermal shock resistance. On the contrary, high hardness and resistance to wear of SiC are features, which make conventional methods such as diamond grinding, low efficient and costly. On the other hand, electrodischarge machining (EDM) is known as an efficient method in this case. In this paper, wire electrodischarge machining (WEDM) process has been taken under examination as machining method, and study has been carried out on the influence of five machining factors which are most known parameters to be controlled by WEDM process machinist, in order to obtain better surface quality. Design of experiments (DOE) method, has been chosen as analytical method for studying variation of surface roughness as a function of machining factors. Finally it turns out that off time and power factors had outstanding effect on surface roughness.
