Effects of Google Translation on Speaking Accuracy and Fluency Among Iranian Intermediate EFL Learners

چکیده

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of using Google translate on accuracy and fluency among Iranian intermediate EFL learners. This study was analyzed qualitatively and the design of the study was quasi excremental. In so doing, ۶۰ out of ۱۵۰ high school students in Chadegan were selected nonrandomly according to their performance on a proficiency test (OQPT). In this study four instruments were used with the purpose of collecting data, namely, OQPT, speaking proficiency test, the questionnaire, and Google translate software. The learners were divided into control and experimental group. First, both groups participated in a speaking proficiency test. Also teachers answered to questionnaire about their attitudes toward using GT. Then the performance of two groups on both post and pretest were compared. Their performances were scored objectively in terms of fluency and accuracy by means of profile of Larsen Freeman (۲۰۰۶) and polio's (۱۹۹۷) guidelines for T-units. The result revealed that the students were not able to produce more accurate, more fluent output within treatment. The findings of this study showed that CG learners excelled the EG learners on accuracy and fluency.
