Effect of Foot Reflexology Massage on Sleep Condition among CardiacPatients: A Systematic Review Study

Objective: Sleep’s importance in the cardiac patients’ quality of life requires finding effective solutions to improvetheir sleep quality and useful evidence-based clinical guidelines on the foot reflexology massage influencing sleepcondition. This systematic review investigated the foot reflexology massage’s effect on cardiac patients’ sleep.Method: This review was performed in ۲۰۲۳ to discover the evidence on this study's purpose. Searching the Iranianand international databases by some keywords from ۱۹۸۰ to ۲۰۲۳ resulted in selecting ۲۹۵ studies according to theinclusion and exclusion criteria, of which ۲۵۵ were excluded and two articles on coronary artery bypass graftsurgery (CABG) and one about acute myocardial infarction entered the review.Results: The intervention included foot reflexology massage. The min and max time of reflexology massage foreach foot lasted ۱۵ and ۲۰ m and the min and max days were ۲ and ۴. The results indicated foot reflexologymassage exerting a significant effect on sleep quality in one study. However, another research reported footreflexology massage not critically enhancing sleep quality.Conclusion: Foot reflexology massage may improve the cardiac patients’ sleep quality and quantity. Apparently, ۱۵-m night foot reflexology massage on the CABG patients was especially effective. However, further research isrequired on acute myocardial infarction patients’ sleep.
