چکیده مقاله:

Oxidative stress plays an important role in the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in Parkinson's disease. Nostoc Commune extract (NCE) has been identified as a bioactive compound in brain disorders, with antioxidant activities. The present study aims to evaluate the effects of NCE on ۶-OHDA-induced cognitive disorders in a rat model of Parkinson's disease. Rats were divided into four groups: control, disease, NCE ۵۰, and NCE ۱۰۰. The Parkinson's model was induced by ۶-OHDA injection unilaterally (AP: +۱ mm; L: +۲.۵ mm; D: +۴.۵ mm). In this research study, intrastriatal ۶-OHDA-lesioned rats received NCE (۵۰ and ۱۰۰ mg/kg) orally for three weeks. Apomorphine-induced rotation on day ۲۱ and a novel object recognition test (NORT) on day ۲۲ were carried out. The results showed that injection of ۶-OHDA decreased discrimination Index in the NORT (p < ۰.۰۰۱). NCE۵۰ and NCE۱۰۰ treatment reduced apomorphine-induced rotational asymmetry and enhanced the time spent with the new object in the novel object recognition test (p < ۰.۰۰۱) compared with the disease group. Besides, NCE ۱۰۰ showed better therapeutic effects than NCE ۵۰. In conclusion, the beneficial effect of NCE on the improvement of learning and memory may be attributed to antioxidant activities. Thus, using these substances may be useful by modulating the level of antioxidant activity and protecting the nervous system against ۶-OHDA toxicity in pharmacological alleviation of cognitive deficits.
