چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Wound healing involves a complex series of events including chemotaxis, cell division, neovascularization, synthesis of new extracellular matrix, and the formation and remodelling of the scar tissue. Diabetes mellitus is associated with several complications such as negative changes in skin wound healing that ends in the tissue loss in diabetic patients. In this study, mixorm, an earthworm standardized whole extract obtained from tissue homogenate of the earthworm Lumbricus rubella examined to heal cutaneous full-thickness wounds in the normal and diabetic male balb/c mice. Methods: The effect of different concentrations of mixorm on the IGF-I and EGF-receptor gene expressions in normal and FGF and FGF-receptor gene expressions in diabetic mice full-thickness wounds for more than 14 days was determined by RT-PCR technique. Meanwhile، the changes in the wound surface area was measured. Results: Our results revealed that mixorm treatments increased all gene expressions in both types of wounds significantly in the normal and diabetic male balb/c mice. Also, in mixorm-treated animals the wound surface area was decreased significantly (p<0.05). Conclusion: Mixorm as an animal-sourced agent could be a very useful candidate for animal/human wound healing-targeted treatments.
