SUSTAINABILITY IN IRANIAN GARDENS CASE STUDY: SHAZDEH GARDEN, KERMAN, IRAN

Iran s nature has an important role on formation of cultural identity civilization and thepeople s financial and spiritual heritage and from a historical point of view, Iranians lovedgreenness and improvement instinctively and due to the lack of plant coverage andconsidering the 75% of Iran being located in desert and semi-desert regions. They tried tomake farmlands, gardens, cities and villages by repulsing the deserts with the aim ofchanging the face of their lands in any place where water found. This circumstance havehad deep effects on daily lives and personal characteristics of Iran and has led to thedevelopment in saving culture, perseverance and various discoveries toward watermanagement. One of the most important portrays of this effort is the Persian garden withvarious definitions. Persian garden is created from the mixture of architectural elements,planting ornamental flowers as well as various flaunts of water and this very formation isin line with Persian culture and taste. In this article, spatial quality and physical structureof Shahzade Garden in Kerman will be evaluated which is an example of Persian gardens;taking the best advantage of the favorable natural circumstances.
