چکیده مقاله:

One of the alternatives to a mechanical joint in engineering applications is an adhesive bonding joint. In comparison to the conventional mechanical fasteners, adhesive bonding joints provide various advantages. The effect of loading rate should be considered to evaluate the quality of the adhesive bonding. In the present research, the effect of this important factor in the amount of strain energy release rate of the bonding between E-glass/Epoxy composites and polyethylene is investigated by conducting an experimental study. Moreover, this should be mentioned that acid etching is used for the surface treatment of polyethylene in order to improve the bonding strength between these two abovementioned materials. To this end, 120 minutes of acid etching exposure time was decided. To measure the strain-energy release rate of adhesive bonding, the asymmetric double-cantilevered beam (ADCB) test was used and three different loading rates from 1 to 100 mm/min were applied. The results obtained from experiments indicated a significant decrease in the strain-energy release rate by increasing the loading rate. Taking these results into meticulous consideration, this can be concluded that by raising the loading rate from 1 to 100 mm/min, the bond strength decreases significantly.
