Cadmium, as a very toxic heavy metal at very low levels, is a healthy and ecological concern. The goal of this applied-analytical research is to investigate of the possibility cadmium removal from urban drinking water by utilizing a batch polyaniline reactor. The variables under study involved are the pH, contact time, adsorbent amount, initial cadmium concentration, and reaction kinetics. A sample of urban drinking water is prepared containing 10-50 mg/L of cadmium. The cadmium-containing water is introduced into a batch reactor and the cadmium removal efficiency is investigated in different conditions for pH (4-9), contact time (0-90 min) and adsorbent doses (0.5-1.5 gr/dl). The average diameter in size of the polyaniline is 30 nm. The main components of the polyaniline nanoparticles are carbon and nitrogen. The best conditions for cadmium removal obtained are at pH 9, contact time 30 min, an adsorbent dose of 1 gr, and a cadmium concentration of 10 mg/L. The adsorption of cadmium on to polyaniline nanoparticles is followed a Langmuir isotherm model (R2> 0.99). The findings show that cadmium reduction efficiency is increased with increasing adsorbent dose, contact time, and decreasing cadmium concentration. This batch reactor using polyaniline nanoparticles has suitable proficiency for the cadmium removal from water.
