The relationship between maternal depression and dietary patterns in children 7 to 10 years old

چکیده
Introduction: Considering the importance of children s dietary patterns in the vitality and well-being of future society and the important role of mothers in regulating children s eating habits and behaviors, this study was designed for the first time in the world to determine the relationship between maternal depression and children s dietary patterns. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study and its statistical population consisted of 313 children studying in Tehran elementary schools in the first semester of the school year 97-98 using stratified cluster sampling. Unselected. Data were collected using demographic and maternal and child information questionnaires, Beck standard questionnaire to assess maternal depression status, and food frequency questionnaire. Then, the dominant dietary patterns of children were determined using exploratory factor analysis. Data were entered into SPSS software version 22 and Stata version 13 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis and Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients. Results: The prevalence of depression was 31.3% (n = 98) and the vegetarian dietary pattern had a higher mean score and the dominant dietary pattern. According to the results, there was a direct and significant correlation between body mass index, infant height and waist circumference with some dietary patterns. Also, there was no significant relationship between maternal depression and children s dietary patterns Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, mothers depression has no significant relationship with children s dietary pattern. Similar studies with larger sample sizes are recommended.کلیدواژه ها
