چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim : Background & Objective: Preeclampsia is a multi-organ syndrome in pregnancy, which occurs in 3-5% of all pregnancies in western countries. Preeclampsia is a major cause of maternalmortality, leading to maternal and fetal complications as well. This condition often occurs after week 20 ofgestation and is diagnosed based on higher systolic blood pressure than 140 mmHg, higher diastolic bloodpressure than 90 mmHg, and proteinuria. Several factors are involved in the incidence of preeclampsia, while stress plays a marked role due to the involvement of the autonomic and sympathetic nervous systemsin the pathophysiology of preeclampsia. Considering the role of factors such as sexual violence in theincidence or exacerbation of preeclampsia, as well as the growing prevalence of domestic violence in Iran, the present study aimed to determine the association between domestic violence and preeclampsia. Methods : Materials and Methods: This retrospective-analytical study was conducted on 110 postpartumwomen, who were divided into two groups of 55 (preeclampsia and non-preeclampsia). Data were collectedusing a researcher-made demographic-midwifery questionnaire and domestic violence scale by the WorldHealth Organization (WHO). Data analysis was performed in SPSS version 22 using t-test, Mann-WhitneyU test, and Chi-square, and P-value of less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results : Results: No significant correlation was observed between sexual violence by the spouse andpreeclampsia (P=0.203). The risk of preeclampsia due sexual violence was 1.6 times higher in thepreeclampsia group, respectively compared to the non-preeclampsia group (P=0.606, respectively). Conclusion : Conclusion: According to the results, sexual violence by the spouse could be an influentialfactor in the incidence of preeclampsia.
