Unusual presentation of atrial myxoma

Primary cardiac tumors are exceedingly rare in clinical practice and myxoma constitutes the majority. Early detection and surgical resection of myxoma are important to prevent more difficulties in other body systems particularly CNS.A previously healthy 55-year-old man presented to emergency department with acute altered mental status and aphasia. The physical examination was notable for decreased right upper and lower limb forces and sinus bradycardia. A tissue Doppler imaging in echocardiography demonstrated large mobile mass in left atrium. Myxoma is certainly not the first suspected diagnosis on a list of differentials in a patient presenting with acute loss of consciousness. Of course, an initial work up to role out much more common causes take place. Complete surgical excision of the tumor accomplished and subsequent histopathologic examination confirmed the diagnosis.This report address neurologists to put their investigations, though rare, more on cardiac tumors considered as o source of embolism in patients with acute cerebrovascular events and a team work decision should be made for management of these patients.
