Ameliorative effects of quercetin on bisphenol A induced-cardiotoxicity in rat

چکیده

Introduction & Objective: Cardiovascular disease is one of the main causes of mortality in the world. Oxidative stress is one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Bisphenol A is a substance in the plastics industry and is used to produce polycarbonate bottles, heat-resistant materials, and epoxy layer of canned food. Studies confirm the presence of polyphenol-A in human tissues, which implies the high exposure of today s societies to these compounds.Methods: This study included six groups with eight Wistar male rats in each group. Group 1 taked lubricant, group 2 received 50mg / kg of bisphenol A, group 3 received 50mg / kg of bisphenol A with 25mg / kg of quercetin, group 4 received 50mg / kg of bisphenol A with 50mg / kg quercetin, group 5 received 50 mg / kg of bisphenol A with 100mg / kg of quercetin and group 6 received 100mg / kg of quercetin. Oral administration of bisphenol A and quercetine was performed for four weeks.Results: In groups receiving 100mg / kg quercetin, LDH, CK-MB, MDA and CAT were significantly reduced (p< 0.001), and the levels of GSH and SOD activity were significantly increased (p< 0.001) as respect to groups receiving bisphenol A alone. Heart histopathology studies also showed that taking 100 mg / kg quercetin reduced the toxicity induced by bisphenol A.Conclusion: The results of this study showed that quercetin is likely to prevent cardiac toxicity induced by bisphenol A due to antioxidant properties.
