Introduction: Nutritional evaluation in patients with chronic wounds is important because nutritional changes can accelerate wound healing. This implies a heavy economic burden and a reduction in the quality of life for the patient and his family. Considering the importance of self-care planning and proper nutrition training to accelerate wound healing, this study is necessary.Method: This study is a review and clinical study. The study population consisted of diabetic foot ulcer patients referred to Imam Khomeini Hospital of Tehran University of Medical Sciences and sampling method in this study was a continuous and simple random sampling to allocate even and individual days for intervention and control groups to prevent information leakage by patients. The intervention group, self-care education and nutrition education were compared with the control group. Results: Nurses, as one of the most important members of the health group, have an important role in accelerating the healing of chronic wounds of the clients and self-care training can be effective in improving their quality of life, as the patients are increasingly demanding information so that the training group will be able to take care of them.Conclusion: Studies have shown that patients with poor nutrition are at risk of prolonged wound healing, while severe malnutrition can lead to infection, sepsis, and even death. Providing self-care education that is tailored to the needs of clients, with proper planning, as well as with the conditions in their life system, increases their satisfaction and independence in care procedures and increases their motivation to participate in health programs and results in rapid and effective treatment improvement. It will also lead to the development of health promotion in the community.
