IMPACT ASSESSMENT OF FAMILY DEVELOPING EMPOWERMENT INTERVENTIONS BASED ON PROTECTIVE FACTORS INDEX

Background and Aim : Social approaches regard family as a small community system.Findings of studies on family issues point that family life processes have many complicated dimentions which affect quality of it’s life and wellbieng.Therefore,in the context of recent social changes,It is a necessity that social structures provide conditions in which protective factors play an effective role in preventing risk factors of social problems.So families need special devised programs aimed to develop in a way that take active role in social health of the society. Family empowerment is based on developmental paradigm which emphasizes the family s valuable assets in conjunction with other institutions,governmental / nongovernmental facilitating practices to follow own paces to overcome thier chalenges; have better healthy relationship with the community.So they can have resiliant power to face social changes.Family empowerment interventions by means of active participating approach, help members of family program their own way of working together to overcome life issues,restablish themselves,have mutually healthy relationship with the community and social services by competent skilful family workers.So, better family protective factors which is evaluated in this study can be predictable.Methods : In this pre-post-test designed experimental study with a 6 months follow-up, 600 families from 11 state ( Tehran, Kordestan, Kermanshah, Khorasan Razavi, Ardabil, Mozandaran, Gilan, Lorestan, Fars, Markazi, Khozestan) were selected. Data were collected using the questionnaire of Family Protective Factors Inventory. The family empowerment program was performed in 12 sessions. The collected data were analyzed by means of mean, standard deviation and repeated measures variance using SPSS software.Results : The results show that the program produced positive direct impact on family protective factors and its components (resilience, social support, attachment, tangible support and parental awareness).( P<0/001,F=15.49).This increase has been maintained in the follow-up phase.Conclusion : Developmental paradigm to empowerment of family,can be promising approach for prevention of social problems, while strengthening the family protective factors, Develope strategies for family development. Then, by using networks in the local community, it will bring a coherent and secure structure for the family unit.
