Background and Aim : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of metacognitive training on reducing the anxiety of women with addicted spouse.Methods : The method of this study was semi-experimental and the pretest- posttest design with control group was used. 32 person were selected based on available sampling method and were placement using random sampling method in two experimental and control groups. The sample selection criteria were those whose husband had addiction and who referred to methadone maintenance therapy centers. The experimental group received metacognitive therapy in 8 sessions of 60 minutes. These sessions included: introduction and evaluating, introducing the disease, and plotting its meta-cognitive charts, teaching the technique of distance from mindfulness, evaluating positive phrases, training to engage in rumination, and behavioral therapy approaches. DAS anxiety inventory was used to collect data. The gathered data by anxiety scale were analyzed by analysis of covariance.Results : The results show that there exist significant differences between the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental group and metacognitive could significantly reduce anxiety in addicts wife.Conclusion : The issue of addiction is multidimensional and inclusive, which is not enough to train an addict. For this reason, the education of the addicted person s family seems to be necessary. When treatment is used in family therapy, recovery is accelerated. In fact, addiction is a family issue and one of its solutions is empowerment of family members
