چکیده
Background and Aim : People who inject drugs (PWID) are at a high risk for HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The population of PWID in Iran is estimated approximately 200000. This study examined the high-risk sexual behavior related to methamphetamine use among PWIDs in Iran. Methods : In this cross-sectional survey, totally 2,356 PWID were recruited using cluster sampling in 10 cities of Iran in 2014. The inclusion criteria were: having a history of drug injection at least once during last 12 months; being ≥18 year-old; and holding Iranian citizenship. A standardized structured questionnaire was used to collect information about injection and sexual experiences of the study population during. High risk sexual contact was defined as having sex without a condom with partner (commercial sex and non - commercialized sex). The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and logistic regression in STATA 14. Results : In this study, 98% of participants were male. The mean age at first drug use (Non-injection) were 18.6 years. The prevalence of methamphetamine consumption in last month was (68.3 %). about half of participants (44.5%) had a history of drug injection during last month. Knowledge of sexually transmitted infection were low (23.95%). around half of them had history of commercial sex during last year (42.0%), the prevalence of unsafe sex with non-commercialized partners was 42.0%. Methamphetamine use increase probability of unsafe extramarital sex (non-commercialized sex) 1.5% (OR: 1.5, 95% Confidence Intervals: 1.09; 2.26) and odds unsafe extramarital sexual intercourse (commercial sex) 2.2 (OR: 2.2, 95% Confidence Intervals: 1.4; 3.4). Conclusion : : Methamphetamine use and high risk sexual behaviors are prevalent among PWIDs. Understanding trends in drug-related behaviors and sexual relationships among injecting drug users can be effective in harm reduction programsکلیدواژه ها
