چکیده

Background & Objective: Preeclampsia is a multi-organ syndrome in pregnancy, which occurs in 3-5% of all pregnancies in western countries. Preeclampsia is a major cause of maternal mortality, leading to maternal and fetal complications as well. This condition often occurs after week 20 of gestation and is diagnosed based on higher systolic blood pressure than 140 mmHg, higher diastolic blood pressure than 90 mmHg, and proteinuria. Several factors are involved in the incidence of preeclampsia, while stress plays a marked role due to the involvement of the autonomic and sympathetic nervous systems in the pathophysiology of preeclampsia. Considering the role of factors such as mental violence violence in the incidence or exacerbation of preeclampsia, as well as the growing prevalence of domestic violence in Iran, the present study aimed to determine the association between domestic violence and preeclampsia.Materials and Methods: This retrospective-analytical study was conducted on 110 postpartum women, who were divided into two groups of 55 (preeclampsia and non-preeclampsia). Data were collected using a researcher-made demographic-midwifery questionnaire and domestic violence scale by the World Health Organization (WHO). Data analysis was performed in SPSS version 22 using t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Chi-square, and P-value of less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results: No significant correlation was observed between domestic violence by the spouse and preeclampsia (P=0.203). The risk of preeclampsia due to mental violence violence was 1.5 higher in the preeclampsia group, respectively compared to the non-preeclampsia group (P=0.328 respectively). Conclusion: According to the results, mental violence by the spouse could be an influential factor in the incidence of preeclampsia.
