Malaria educational program: knowledge, attitude and performance of housewives in Bandar Abbas city

The highest mortality of Malaria is reported from developing countries. Using Bed nets an effective and important strategy for Malaria control. Since the education of using insecticide-treated bed nets, has a crucial role in protecting children and pregnant women against Malaria, this study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of educational program improving the knowledge, attitude and performance of household women in Bandar Abbas city about Malaria.Method and Materials:This is a quasi-experimental and interventional investigation in which 172 housewives living in suburb region of Bandar Abbas were participated. They were divided into control and intervention groups randomly.The pretests were done by use of knowledge, attitude and behavioral questionnaire and checklists. They were trained during 48 hours about Malaria disease, its complications, prevention and especial cares. Post tests were done 2 months after intervention. The findings were compared in and between two groups. Data analysis was conducted through SPSS software version 20, using independent samples t, paired t test, chi-squared test and Wilcoxon signed rank test.Results:There were significant differences after intervention in the mean scores of knowledge (P< 0.001), attitude (P< 0.001), and behavior (P< 0.001) between two studied groups.Conclusion:This study showed that education affected the knowledge and performance of the studies people significantly and caused to progress suitable Malaria s preventive behaviors
