Knowledge, attitude and practice of parents of the students in Sanandaj regarding pediculosis (head lice) and designing an appropriate service package to increase their awareness, attitude change and behavior, 2017-18

Background: Head louse infestation is one of the common health and persecutor problems among the students. Parents who are aware of the contamination of their children with head lice and its dangers play a key and important role in controlling this dangerous insect.Objectives: The aim of this research was to evaluate knowledge, attitude and practice of parents of the students in Sanandaj regarding pediculosis (head lice) and designing an appropriate service package to increase their awareness, attitude change and behavior, 2017-18.Material and Methods: This was an interventional study. The population was the parents of elementary and guidance school children in Sanandaj. Among them, 400 cases were selected and answered a questionnaire including 37 questions about pediculosis that used before and after training intervention. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS ver.20.Results: The mean age of the sampled was 34.82±6.57, minimum and maximum 23 and 60 years old, respectively. 31% of them were men and the others were women. The mean and standard deviation score of knowledge, attitude and performance of the samples before and after training intervention was 9.03±2.75, 22.41±3.50, 30.66±4.49 and 11.36±3.32, 22.41±3.29, 31.17±3.51 respectively.Conclusion: The findings of the present study revealed that the knowledge rate of the samples about head louse is poor. Though the knowledge rate of them after training intervention increased but it is not desirable; so designing and implementation of continuous training programs about pediculosis treatment and its control is suggested.
