چکیده

Background: Anaplasmosis and Ehrlichiosis are tick-borne rickettsial zoonotic diseases, causing significant economic losses to livestock industry and threat to human health. Different species of these genera may cause illness in human and show similar clinical presentations including fever, headache, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia and elevated liver enzymes. Clinical manifestations of Ehrlichiosis ranging from a mild febrile illness to a severe form, characterized by multi-organ system failure. Animal husbandry constitutes a major part of the economy of people in Kohgiluyeh and BoyerAhmad Province, which despite its numerous benefits may promote the distribution of zoonotic diseases. Objectives: The aim of study was to determine the infection rate of ticks collected from livestock to either Anaplasma or Ehrlichia.Materials and Methods: During the present study, from February 2016 to January 2017, one thousand two hundred seventy three hard ticks from sheep, goats, and cattle were collected and were classified on the basis of morphological characteristics. Also nested PCR amplification of the 16S ribosomal RNA gene was used to detention of Anaplasma spp./Ehrlichia spp in tick specimens.Results: Based on morphological characters 10 species including Rhipicephalus sanguineus, R. bursa, R. turanicus, Hyalomma asiaticum, Hy. detritum, Hy. marginatum, Hy. scupense, Hy. excavatum, Dermacentor marginatus and Haemaphysalis sulcata, were identified. Rhipicephalus sanguineus was the most abundant species followed by R. bursa and Hy. scupense. Out of 70 ticks which analyzed for presence of Anaplasma and/or Ehrlichia bacteria, twenty-six samples (37%) were positive. In Boyerahmad county Anaplasma ovis was detected in R. sanguineus and Ehrlichia sp was detected in R. bursa and Hy. scupense. Also in Dena county, Anaplasma ovis was detected in R. sanguineus and R. bursa. Because of widespread presence of R. sanguineus, the ability of this species to complete its life cycle in indoor places and also prevalence of Ehrlichia sp infection in R. bursa, more detailed studies in the area is recommended.Conclusion: Due to importance of livestock industry in the region preventive measures such as accurate dipping of livestock to reduce the population of vectors could be very helpful.
