Restless Leg Syndrome(RLS) present as sensory and motor symptoms especially at nights and rest. Because this disorder can affect patients’ quality of life, we aimed to investigate the prevalence of RLS in COPD patients. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, patients with the diagnosis of COPD confirmed with history and spirometry results, referring to outpatient and inpatient clinic of pulmonary diseases in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences during 2016- 2017, were studied. The COPD stages were assessed by GOLD criteria. Presence and intensity of RLS were assessed by international RLS criteria. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22 software. Results: Among 111 COPD patients 38 (34.2%) had RLS. the severity of RLS was mild in 21.6%, moderate in 54.1%, severe in 18.9% and very severe in 5.4%. we found no significant difference in arterial blood gas (ABG) parameter and pulmonary function test (PFT) parameters between patients with and without RLS (P<0.05). Conclusion: Restless leg syndrome is prevalent among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Screening of COPD patients for RLS leads to improvement of quality of life and sleep disturbances.
