Protective Effect of Vitamin C Against Cisplatin- Induced Memory and Learning Impairment in Male Rats

چکیده
Cisplatin is widely used for cancer therapy. Although cisplatin is very effective drug, it is highly toxic and has lots of side effects. The presentstudy is conducted to assess influence of the vitamin C (Vit C) on learning and memory impairments in cisplatin-induced cognitive impairment. Material and Methods: The thirty two male rats divided into four groups: Group I (Control; n = 8) received 0.9% saline once per day for a week intraperitoneally (i.p); Group II (cisplatin; n = 8) received 2 mg/kg/7day cisplatin ip; Group III (cisplatin+Vit C; n = 8) received 2 mg/kg/7day ,i.p. cisplatin and vitamin C 150 mg/kg/7day , i.p; Group IV received 150 mg/kg/7day vitamin C. At the end of the experiment, the memory and learning were evaluated by Morris water maze (MWM) and passive avoidance (PA) tests. Results: Cisplatin increased the escape latencyand traveled path in MWM (P < 0.001). Cisplatin also shortened the latency for enter the dark room of PA as well as the time spent in the target quadrant in probe trial test of MWM (P < 0.05-P < 0. 001). All the effects of cisplatin were reversed by Vit C (P < 0.05-P < 0.01).Conclusion: The results of the present study showed that Vit C improves cisplatin-induced memory and learning impairment.کلیدواژه ها
