چکیده مقاله:

Introduction:Solitary fibrous tumor is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm which is ubiquitous in soft tissue but its most common site is in the pleura .On rare occasion, it is found in the peritoneum or retroperitoneum. Occurrence of this tumor in the mesentery is a rare condition which currently no study has reported this condition.Case presentation:A 51-year old woman with complaint of lower abdominal pain from 3 months ago that referred to our hospital. The pain radiated to right back and relieved by lying down. There was no history of nausea, vomiting and weight loss. The patient was afebrile during the examination. Abdominal examination revealed mass on right lower quadrant with mild tenderness. In laboratory assessment, normal levels of complete blood count were reported .Urine analysis and human chorionic gonadotropin level were also normal. Preoperative imaging studies and consequative surgical findings indicated that tumor was located as a single large mass within the mesentery with adherent to the urinary bladder. The patient underwent laparatomy , tumor excision and omentectomy .On microscopic examination, spindle cell tumor was identified and the diagnosis of solitary fibrous tumor was confirmed on immunohistochemical analysis. Disscussion: Solitary fibrous tumor is an uncommon slow growing tumor .En block surgical resection is curative, as these tumors have benign behavior .Immunohistochemical markers such as BCL2,CD34 and STAT6 are very useful diagnostic tools for confirmation of the diagnosis.
