خلاصه مقاله:
Background: Assisted reproductive technology (ART) is an important method for the infertile couples to have child. Chil-dren born of these methods may be exposed to some complica-tions in the long term .This study was performed with aim to assess intellectual disability (ID) in ART.Materials and Methods: In this literature review article, the related articles in English were collected from databases of PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar using the keywords intel-lectual disability , intellectual disorders , intellectual impair-ment and assisted reproductive technology from 2016 to 2019. Proper articles were included in final analysis. Results: Generally, there is a risk of an increase in the inci-dence of childhood ID in children was born by ART Compared with spontaneous conception. But the increase is low. Some statistically significant studies have been reported. For specific procedures in most of these studies, the rate of increase in ICSI is more than IVF and the increase in absolute risk associated with IVF was small. Other articles have not reported a signifi-cant difference. Conclusion: There is a controversy in studies in relation to the this subject due to differences in research environment, follow-up period and other variables related to the study .Given that there is no decisive results in increasing the incidence of ID in children were born by ART, More extensive cohort studies are needed in this regard. Considering the possibility of an increase in this complication, it is imperative that this issue be taken into account in the infertile couples counseling program.
